Intense Pulsed Light ( IPL Photo-rejuvenation)
IPL, short for Intense Pulsed Light, is a popular rejuvenating treatment effective for the treatment for a variety of skin conditions including broken capillaries, brown spots caused by sun damage, and irregular skin texture. IPL treatment stimulates collagen production, which rejuvenates the skin and refines large pores.
IPL is safe in individuals with light skin type I-III and is effective for treatment of rosacea (facial redness and broken blood vessels), sun damage, freckles, broken capillaries, skin laxity, large pores, preventive anti-aging and textural changes. IPL can be used on all parts of the body, including the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, legs. IPL treatment is often referred to as a photo facial.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial or photorejuvenation
IPL technology improves the appearance of photo-aged skin, removes age spots, freckles, brown spots and redness caused by broken capillaries or rosacea through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires minimal downtime and has a low risk of side effects. Dr Dele-Michael uses IPL to treat sun-damaged skin of the face, chest, neck and hands.
How IPL works
IPL uses short blasts of polychromatic, high-intensity light to penetrate just below the skin’s surface, treating either the melanin that makes up brown “age spots” or the blood vessels that create broken capillaries. The heat delivered to the skin during treatment also stimulates skin collagen and elastin leading to tighter, firmer skin with improved texture. IPLs are not lasers. IPL delivers high-intensity pulses of light that penetrate the skin and heat the layers to reduce melanin, the dark pigment in skin, or hemoglobin, the red blood cells in blood vessels. This results in healthier, radiant skin.

How many IPL treatments will I need?
The number of IPL treatments you need will depend on the condition of your skin and your desired results. Generally, patients need a series of 3-6 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart.
How long will my IPL treatment last?
The results of your IPL treatment are long lasting, but not permanent. During your consultation, Dr Dele-Michael will discuss proper skin care regimen with you to maintain and prolong your results as long as possible. The better you take care of your skin, the longer your results will last.
Dye-PL at Radiant Skin Dermatology and Laser
The new next generation IPL technology from Alma laser called Dye-PL combines the efficacy of a Pulse Dye Laser with the gentleness of an IPL. This means your Dye-PL treatment will more effectively treat the unwanted brown spots, broken capillaries and enlarged pores on your skin for a more youthful and attractive complexion with minimal discomfort and downtime.
The new Dye-PL’s ability to focus light like a laser on deeper pigment imperfections and broken capillaries allows for more effective treatment and longer lasting results.
How many Dye-PL treatments do I need?
Most patients see dramatic results after one treatment e.g. broken capillaries disappear in seconds. However, we recommend three (3) treatments for optimal results
Is the treatment uncomfortable? Is there downtime after treatment?
Our Dye-PL photofacial (photorejuvenation) treatment is a popular lunch time procedure. Because patients are generally very comfortable during treatment, no topical anesthetic is required prior to treatment. During treatment, patients describe a mild fleeting warm sensation. After the treatment, the skin may feel warm and slightly pink; and freckles appear darker. This is normal, as the treatment disrupts the pigment network and the brown spots shed within a few days, leaving your skin more radiant and youthful.
The results of this treatment are long lasting and the length of time may depend on how well the skin is maintained after the procedure. Following each procedure, minimal downtime may be required and there is a low risk of side effects. Let us help keep your skin radiant and youthful.
